What Was So Interesting About Playing With Tangrams!

Tangram is a Chinese Geometrical puzzle consisting of a square cut into seven pieces which can be arranged to make various other shapes. I love playing with Tangrams.

It is very interesting to play with Tangram puzzle because I enjoy making beautiful shapes.

A Graph - Tickets Sold For a Play

The temple community ISKCON Coimbatore, that I visit very often sometimes organizes dramas/play. All of these plays are free of cost for all kinds of people to watch. I once watched a play on "Sudama Charitra'. It was a wonderfully played drama. The temple community is constructing a new big temple nearby and they are raising funds for the construction of the new temple.

When I was studying 'Data Handling' in Mathematics, I imagined that we all are organizing a play on "Balarama kills Denukasura" to raise funds for the new temple construction. I even imagined that different group of people in our temple community sold tickets for this play. My amma gave me some imaginary data related  to this and here is a BAR GRAPH I created.

My Questions Related To Computers, Software And Internet

I have been reading the books "Learning Computers For Smarter Life - Book 1 to Book 5", authored by Manuj Bajaj and Anil Ahlawat. I have these questions in my mind for which I would like to get answers. The questions are
  1. When was Windows Vista released first?
  2. Sometimes the keyboards, mouse has a Microsoft logo. Does that mean that they are manufactured by Microsoft? I thought Microsoft only manufactures software applications, not hardware or other products.
  3. Do some websites that has videos in it cause Virus in my computer?
  4.  How do some computer security software like Kaspersky protect the computer from virus?
  5. What kind of websites attack our computer and cause virus?

Do comment your answers. Thank you.

Exploring Flowers, Flower Rangoli And Flower Photography

It all started when last night, we were in the Radha Krishna Temple. Yesterday was the last day of the swing festival (Jhoola Utsav). After the festivities got over, we were cleaning up the decoration. While we were doing that, I collected loads of flowers that adorned Radha and Krishna and brought those flowers home.

This morning, my mother had a brilliant idea. And the idea was to explore the flowers, do some sensory activities like smelling, touching and exploring each part of the flowers. While I was doing, she asked me if I am interested in practicing photography skills using these flowers. I started to capture pictures of the flowers. Slowly, I got other ideas. I started to arrange the flowers along with the tools from the mechanics kit that I was playing. Later, I also captured some flower designs along with some Lego blocks. Then I used some cloths as background for the flowers.

Then, Amma got a very amazing idea. She thought of making a flower rangoli. I helped her in making this wonderful Krishna flower rangoli.

Below are the pictures that I captured, take a look. I had to work on my thinking skills to come up with a caption/sentences for each picture.

How Mathematics Triggered An Idea to Make Edu Products

I started to learn 'I Did It Mathematics - Book 5'. There was a play activity to make flash cards on large numbers, their number names and their expanded forms. The game was for a group of children and when the teacher would tell a number, the students who has the flash card for the number, number names and its expanded form, join together to form a group. And the game continues.

Since I am homeschooling and I didn't have friends around, Amma and myself came up with an idea to make flash cards and play a memory game which we will do later.

In the meanwhile, we integrated technology with our Mathematics lesson.

The Properties Of A Computer File

Have you ever seen a lot of icons on a desktop of your computer? Those icons are called as files. Files are stored everywhere in your computer. They are in the desktop, they are in the documents folder, picture folders etc. They are scattered all around in your computer.

What I have learnt today is each file has its own properties. When I right clicked a file and looked into the properties of the file, what I saw is each file has its own name which we know already and it also has a file type. For example, a MS Word file where we type a lot of content is stored as a DOC file. A picture file is stored as a JPG file.

Emblems and Flags represents our Spirit and Culture

The National Flag of each country represents the Unity of its country men. The national flag is a symbol that brings people together. It describes the greatness of the country.

Emblems and National Flags captures the spirit or culture of a Country.

Divided But United

What unites people from different professions?

They could be from one country, the fact that they are from one country but are in different professions can unite them in a foreign land. People can be interdependent because they basically need each other to come up with a new change or a new something. Example, a construction worker is interdependent with a building engineer since the former constructs a building depending on the latter's designs. A bus driver and a conductor are interdependent because it needs two people to run a bus service. One rides the bus while the other sells the tickets, one focuses on the road and traffic while the other focuses on seating arrangements and managing people inside the bus.

What Unites people who speak different languages?

Wars Should Cease - Persuasive Writing

I came to know about many hundreds of wars that has happened in the past century. Some of the wars are World War I, World War II, Croatian War of Independence, Soviet War in Afghanistan, Turkish War of Independence, Bay of Pigs Invasion and more. I think WARS SHOULD CEASE.
I will explain why.

Change And Emperor Ashoka

History is always a study of change. Not everything changes. Some remains same and others change. Things that remains same for many years are something like that we always need food, we always need shelter, fern plant still exists, sun still exists, the Earth didn't break as yet in to several pieces, the Moon did not break and split.

There are other things that change like the clothes we wear, the vehicles we travel, extinct dinosaurs, the ice age that is not existing anymore, the world that has split into several countries, the oceans that keep growing and changing etc.

I would like to share my opinion about the change Kalinga war brought.  King Ashoka was the son of Bindusara and grand son of Chandragupta Maurya.

The following picture shows the Mauryan Empire of 260 BC.

The Jowett Car - A Time Line

Change is a continuous process. It was necessary to bring changes so that human beings can start living comfortably. One of the major changes brought by human beings is the invention of automobiles. This change helped the people in the world to travel anywhere on the land, water and air. Since then people started to explore the different places in the world and we became more aware of the world that we live in.

Characteristics of a Historian - A Mind Map

Created using MS Word 2016
Historian is one who studies, write about and answers our questions about History. Unlike story teller, he or she deals with facts, writes truthfully, writes about real people and real events. I like Historians because they research a lot to gather evidences to bring out real facts about History.

The Maha Yuga Cycle, Year Cycle in MS Word

Today, I also learnt how to insert a cycle in MS Word. I learnt how to change font colors, increase the size of the font, use text effects and typography. The pictures below represent the Maha Yuga Cycle and the Year Cycle.

From Brahma to King Yadu

I continue to learn more on how to use MS Word. Today, I learnt about how to insert Hierarchy List into MS Word. And, I also learnt about the ancestral lineage from Brahma to King Yadu. King Yadu comes from the Lunar Dynasty, his ancestral father is Soma. From King Yadu, the Yadu dynasty was called as Yadu kula, the clan of Yadu. Lord Sri Krishna is a Yaduvanshi, meaning born in the Yadu dynasty. The following two pictures shows the hierarchy right from Brahma to King Yadu.

My Questions Related To MS Word And Computers

I started to use computer more and more nowadays. What I learnt yesterday is that it is not just enough to be a computer user. In order to be a Computer Expert, we have to also understand how the Computer works, we have to think what happens inside and we have to ask a  lot of questions. My mom says, being a Computer User is nothing wrong, but to be a 'Maker', we have to think beyond.

I was asked to write all the curious questions that I have about MS Word and computers in general. So, here is a list of questions that I have. If you have answers for me, please comment. I will be glad you helped.

My Questions are

Research On Mount. Krauncha Based On Ramayana

My mother gave me this verse from Valmiki Ramayana and asked me to research on where Mount. Krauncha could be in the current world.

The following is the verse and translation.

Valmiki Ramayana

Translation:
Thereafter on reaching Mount. Krauncha, you shall cautiously enter into a highly impassable tunnel of that mountain to search Sita. That tunnel, they say is an un-enterable one.

My Research Below:

Research On Regions Based On Tree Names From Ramayana

Research Done by me.
Mentor : My mom

I was given this verse from Valmiki Ramayana. My goal was to find out in which regions the trees mentioned by Sugreeva, are found in the current time. I was also asked to find out the botanical name of the trees and write few sentences about the trees.

Verse from Valmiki Ramayana

लोध्र पद्मक खण्डेषु देवदारु वनेषु च |
रावणः सह वैदेह्या मार्गितव्या ततः ततः || || ४-४३-१३ Valmiki Ramayana

Sugreeva instructs a vanara Shatabali and his army to go up North in search of Devi Sita. The above verse comes in the Kishkinda Kanda.

Translation:
In the stands of Lodhra Trees, Padmaka Trees and in the woods of Devadaru, or Deodar trees, Ravana is to be searched there and there, together with Seetha.

Lord Rama - Zentangle Art

Happy Rama Navami to all. I drew this Zentangle Lord Rama inspired by Sanjay Patel's art. It took a week for me to draw this Lord Rama. I did not find any other zentangle art for Lord Rama in the internet. So, my guess is I could be the first one to draw a Zentangle Lord Rama. How excited I am!

The Jungle Book - Movie Review

What I learnt from the movie “Jungle Book” is that I can be myself. The message of the movie is one don’t have to act like somebody else. I agree with this message because if one acts like somebody else, then we cannot know our real character, values, strengths and personality. The best I liked in the movie is the scene when Mogli covered his body with leaves when he was hitting the bee hive for Baloo. He did this to protect himself from the bee stings. I thought Mogli was smart enough to use this idea to avoid bee stings. When Sher Khan killed Mogli’s human father, I felt very sad. That is the scene I did not like. But, that apart, there are lot of fun things I like to share. My favorite character in the movie is Mogli. Because, he is adventurous. Baloo is more like me or I am more like Baloo.

Poem - If I Were A Cloud

If I were a cloud, I would get captured in a photo taken by a satellite revolving around the earth
If I were a cloud, I would pour down as rain
If I were a cloud, I would see people in a flying air-plane
If I were a cloud, I won't have to catch a cough
If I were a cloud, I won't have to stay in one place
If I were a cloud, I won't have to itch.

A Winter's Day

I was asked to think of a place where I live or a place where I have been and describe a winter's day. But I have not been to any place which will really show a winter's day in a way a real winter's day is supposed to be. So, I imagined a place which will have a winter. I came across Dimapur when I was researching about Bheema and Hidimbi. Here is the link to the story of Bheema and Hidimbi.

So, here is a write up about a winter's day in Dimapur. It is all about my imagination, not real, okay. I really do not know how to knit.

Change is a process and it is related to History

What is History? History is, simply put, what happened in the past and the changes that happened in it that formed the world today. So, change is very important and change is related to History.

In order to understand how change is related to History, I prepared a questionnaire to interview my parents to know the changes that happened in their living and life styles that has formed the world today.

My questions to my mother were

Change: Is it good or bad

Change is the new thing that come our way. Change is neither good nor bad. Change creates new history. Change is a necessary thing. No one can stop the change. Instead of getting scared, one can study the path of change and make sure the direction of the change is towards the good and the betterment. I brainstormed with my mother who is also my facilitator, to find out if it is good to change or not.
