Have you ever seen a lot of icons on a desktop of your computer? Those icons are called as files. Files are stored everywhere in your computer. They are in the desktop, they are in the documents folder, picture folders etc. They are scattered all around in your computer.
What I have learnt today is each file has its own properties. When I right clicked a file and looked into the properties of the file, what I saw is each file has its own name which we know already and it also has a file type. For example, a MS Word file where we type a lot of content is stored as a DOC file. A picture file is stored as a JPG file.
I also saw in the 'Properties Window', the application used to open the file. For example, a doc file can be opened with MS WORD. A picture file can be opened with PICASA Application. We can even change the application with which we can open any file. For example, a picture file can also be opened with MS PAINT. The 'Properties Window' also mentions the location of the file, information related to where it is stored within the computer. I can also know about the size of the file by researching the 'Properties Window'. If you think a computer file is measured in Kilograms, you are wrong. A computer file's size is determined by Kilo Bytes. In the Properties Window, we can also find out when the file was created, modified or accessed. One can also make the file 'READ ONLY' if we do not want other people to edit our file. I learnt that we can also hide the file if we want to and later retrieve it from the 'View' tab.
To gain a better understanding of what the Properties Window is, I will look at the properties window of several files stored in my computer for a week and take notes. This will increase my awareness about computer files and their properties.
Have you ever seen the properties window of a file in your computer? If not, it is time for you to take a look.
Nice!
