Interview With Dentists

As a part of an activity given in I Explore - Book 4 written by Mrinalini Pradhan, I drew a labelled diagram of 'The Structure Of A Tooth'. I also interviewed two dentists related to gathering more knowledge about dentistry. Dentistry is a Science concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases of the teeth, gums, and related structures of the mouth and including the repair and replacement of defective teeth. 

I asked one question to two of the dentists that I met last week. I asked them with what problems people come to the dentist and what treatment procedures the dentist provide. The two dentists gave different kinds of answers.

One dentist uncle that I talked to said that he has studied MDS. MDS is a dental degree that represents Masters in Dental Surgery/Science. He said that BDS is a Bachelor's dental degree. One can not do MDS without doing BDS. He said that he works on root canal problems and also provides crowns for dental root problem. He also provides aligners for teeth. I researched from the internet that a root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that has badly been decayed or become infected. During a root canal process, the dentist take out the bad cavity tooth and replaces that place with an artificial tooth and covers it with an artificially made crown. They take impressions of the teeth and make a similar artificial crown.

One has to be very careful and have very good teeth hygiene. We have to brush our teeth properly, make sure we don't get cavities, by brushing properly twice a day, visit the dentist regularly for cleaning and checking. Otherwise, the cavity will increase and become a root canal problem and then our tooth would need to be pulled out and we will end up having an artificial crown inside our mouth. For cavities which are less, they clean the cavity and do filling. They fill the place with some artificial material so that the cavity is gone. The doctor said that he provides teeth aligner if any tooth is rotated and if we have gaps between teeth.

I talked to another dentist and she said she cleans people's teeth and treat cavity. She cleans the decayed area where the cavity was there and fills the area with some cement kind of material. She also said people with tooth pain need to check if they have decay and added that decay and cavities will weaken the gums too.

I am so glad that I don't have any decay, cavities or root canal problem.
