Helix Nebula NGC 7293 - Is It The Eye of God?

Modern Science says that Nebula is a cloud of gas and dust in outer space. A nebula is an interstellar cloud of dust, hydrogen, helium and other ionized gases.

Me and my Amma are researching about nebulae and we wonder how the patterns of nebulae is similar to some of the things that we see in our life.  Hubble Space Telescope is a space telescope that is launched in 1990 by space organizations like NASA and ESA. This telescope is sending lots of pictures of nebulae. These pictures are so unbelievable because these nebulae looks like many things that I see around in my life in the form of rangoli, yantras and mandalas. These pictures that the hubble space telescope is sending are so fascinating.

I will be posting many photo essays. I will also share my comparative studies how these patterns of nebulae looks like some of the rangoli and the mandalas I see and we draw. I will also share with you some photo essays. I will also share my research work that I do with my Amma, about what the puranic texts like Upanishads say about nebulae, constellations, stars etc. Since I am very young, I will share only little, one or two sentences.

Some points that I found out in some websites.

Mundaka Upanishad says that nebulae and their product stars are called as Marici.

The following surya mantra talks about Marici.

OM RHAM RHIM RHUM RHAIM RHOUM RHAH
MITRA RAVI SURYA BHANU KHAGA PUSHAN HIRANYAGARBHA
MARICHI ADITYA SAVITRU ARKA BHASKAREBHYO NAMO NAMAHA.

This sloka explains the formation of nebulae, sun, stars etc.

Marici means particle as well as light. It is the stage of the star when the fuel runs out just like the fuel which runs out of a car. This happens when all hydrogen is converted to helium. Hydrogen and helium are gases. Because the fuel runs out, the star looses the ability to emit huge energy.

Khaga means those that moves out in the air or that flies. This is the stage when the outer layer move away from the core and form gaseous shell that is what is referred to as nebula.

Bhaskara means one that makes the light. Just like a dense forest, there are dense regions in the gaseous clouds. Just like Khaga, Bhaskara is a stage. This is the stage in which the dense regions of the gas clouds contract and form stars, and hence a life of a star begin. This is so similar to the modern science which says that stars are formed from gas.

The science of surya siddanta describes that marici expands in all directions and becomes khaga. It flies or move away from the core and then gets into bhaskara stage where a life of a star begins.

The Ispanishad say

यथातथ्यतोऽर्थान् व्यदधाच्छाश्वतीभ्यः समाभ्यः
yathātathyato'rthān vyadadhācchāśvatībhyaḥ samābhyaḥ |
Meaning - The unalterable laws of the cosmos are an expression of its divine ground. The universe is ruled by law; the sun, the stars, the nebulae, fire lighting, rain, everything in nature obeys law. It is law that keeps all things within their limits, so that do not overstep those limits and cause chaos.

Krishna Bhagwan says in Srimad Bhagavad Gita, "maricir marutam asmi" (10.22)
What that means is "Among the maruts, I am marici".

My Amma wondered what 'Marut' meant. Even before she could find out, I knew it could be 'Maruti', the wind. And, I was right. Marut is the deity of wind and gas. Later, I will share a story of how Marut was born.

I wondered if Krishna called himself as Marici. Marici is nebulae and their product stars.

But then, when I saw the pictures of this nebula, firstly I really got scared. You know why? Because it looked like a real eye. I was shivering. In one of the videos that I watched from hubble site, I saw cloud dusts and gases that looked like even eye lashes. I wondered if this is real eye or dust of gases. What is this? I wonder. But it looks so fascinating. May be, there is some God really probably up in the sky. I like to know more about nebulae. But scientists can not declare God based on their research. My Amma says their job is to discover, get pictures and study them and they are doing their job.  They don't have to believe in anything prior to discovering and studying. Scientists are in search of evidence. Evidence is a proof, it proves that something is real and correct. In my science work, I observe and gather evidences. I wish I had a telescope and discover more such nebulae like the NASA and ESA scientists do.

I would like to share with you Helix Nebula nicknamed as  'The Eye Of God'.

Would you like to take a closer look? So, see it.

Doesn't this look like a real eye? Real blue eye like many people say that the Supreme has. I can compare this blue color with 'neela megha' meaning 'blue cloud'. 'Neela' in Sanskrit means blue. 'Megha' in Sanskrit means cloud. And, this is really a cloud, and a blue cloud. A community called 'Iyengars' who follow the doctrine of 'Vashishtadvaita' calls Sriman Narayana as 'Karu Neela Vannan', meaning blackish blue eyed. Many others call Krishna as 'Neela Mega Shyama', meaning blackish blue cloud. 'Shyama' in Sanskrit means dark blackish blue.

It all looks scary and thrilling for me. This nebula looks like Krishna's blue eye. Now, I have several questions. Is the Supreme God a person or a cloud? Is this a nebula or a real eye? Why should a nebula look like an eye? Why does a nebula has cloud dust formation that look like eye lashes?

Helix nebula is one of the nearest nebulae to earth, 650 light years away. It is located in the constellation Aquarius.

Do you know what one light year is? One light year is the distance light can travel in one year. Look at the drawing I created in my Kindle.
